Biography

George Augustus Marden was born on August 9, 1839 in Mount Vernon, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1862. He was an American journalist, attorney and politician (1883-1884) who served as Massachusetts Treasurer (1889-1894) and as assistant treasurer of the United States for the Boston subtreasury (1896-1906). He also worked for the "Concord Monitor," and "The Boston Advertiser," and was the editor and part owner of the "Lowell Courier." Marden died on December 19, 1906.

Abstract

George A. Marden (1839-1906), journalist and politician. Dartmouth College Class of 1862. The collection contains his letter describing his experiences in the 1st and 2d U.S. Sharpshooters, attached to the Army of the Potomac, during the War of the Rebellion.
