Biography

Vernon A. Hood was born on September 6, 1914, in Fairlee, Vermont. At the age of 13, he moved to Plainfield, NH, and developed a passion for local history. For more than 30 years Hood collected information, stories and documents from town residents. Concerned about preserving anything related to the history of the town of Plainfield, he collected early maps, transcribed vital records, town meeting minutes, cemetery headstones and family bibles. He also compiled genealogies of Plainfield families, and filled many notebooks with his typed and handwritten notes. He was working on a history of Plainfield when he died in 1971.
