Biography

Richard Emerson Lane was born 2 June 1813 in Candia, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1841. While a student at Dartmouth, he spent his winters teaching at a school in Beverly, Massachusetts. He was also involved with the Theological Society. Lane taught in Henniker, New Hampshire, for one term. In November 1841, he went to Lewiston, New York, to read law and teach mathematics at Lewiston Academy. Lane died of congestion of the lungs on 27 May 1842 in Lewiston, New York.
