Biography

John Frederick Braun was born in 1867. He was the head of the Pennsylvania Lawn Mower Works which manufactured leather, cement and other products. Braun was also a collector of American Art including work by John Singer Sargent, George Inness, Whistler, George Bellows, and Gilbert Stuart. In 1929, he donated a collection of 121 works of art by Joseph Pennell. Braun was also a patron of music and art and was on the board of the Philadelphia Orchestra Association, president of the Philadelphia Art Alliance, and a member of the board of the Presser Foundation and the Pennsylvania Museum. He died in 1939.
