Biography
Samuel A. Duncan was born on June 19, 1836 in Plainfield, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1858 after which he worked as a tutor, assistant commissioner of patents and lawyer. During the Civil War he served as an officer in the 14th Regiment of New Hampshire Volunteers, the 4th Regiment of United States Volunteers, and a regiment of black soldiers. He died on October 18, 1895.
