Description
The collection contains letters written to Duncan from family and friends as well as letters written to him while he was a student at Dartmouth College and while he was an officer in the Civil War. The letters refer to his experiences as an officer of the 14th Regiment of New Hampshire Volunteers, the 4th Regiment of United States Volunteers, and a regiment of black soldiers. Letters written to him by Alexander Gardiner, an officer in the 14th Regiment are also included.
