Biography
Seth Payson was born to Rev. Phillips and Kezia Bullen Payson in Walpole on Sept. 30, 1758. Seth followed his father into the Congregational ministry. He graduated from Harvard with high honors in 1777. He later obtained Doctor of Divinity degree from Dartmouth College in 1809. He later became a trustee of Dartmouth, 1813-1820. He was offered the post of settled pastor of Rindge, NH's First Congregational Church. A some negotiation on fine points of church membership and emolument, accepted the post in 1782, becoming the second pastor of that congregation. He served almost 40 years, until his death in 1820.
