Richard M. Mitchell was born in 1917. A life long steamboat enthusiast, he wrote “The Steam Launch”, which was published in 1982. He died in Brattleboro, VT in 1990.

Richard M. Mitchell (1917-1990), collector. Consist of materials on the life of George Eli Whitney, including a photocopy of the typescript “The Story of George Eli Whitney”, a biography written by Mitchell (1956), as well as photographs, reproduction photographs, negatives and contact prints of steamboats and machinery.
