Description

The papers of Richard Mitchell contain research materials on the life of George Eli Whitney, an early pioneer in automotive history and proponent of steam driven carriages who founded the Whitney Motor Wagon Company. Included in the papers is a photocopied typescript of an unpublished biography of Whitney: "The Story of George Eli Whitney", by Mitchell (1956), as well as photographs, reproduction photographs, negatives and contact prints of steamboats, machinery, George Whitney, and other people.
