Close, Virginia L.

 

Biography

Virginia L. Close grew up in White River Junction, VT, and graduated from Hartford High School. She earned a B.A. at the University of Vermont and an M.A. in history at the University of Connecticut in 1943. She also received a B.A. in library science from Simmons College. She began working at the Dartmouth Library in 1945, and in 1986, after 41 years of service to the College, was awarded an honorary master’s degree. In 2002 she co-authored "Eleazar Wheelock and the adventurous founding of Dartmouth College" with Dick Hoefnagel.
