The papers of John Moffatt Mecklin contain study notes in German, photographs, reprints, the syllabus for Sociology 15, the typescript for "Fisherman's Psyche," written by Mecklin, correspondence with E.D. Warfield of Lafayette College, A.P. Camphor, president of the Central Alabama Institute, and E.M. Hopkins, president of Dartmouth College. Of special note is a written reaction to Mecklin's book, "Democracy and Race Friction," by a Liberian missionary and educator. Autobiographical letters from Ernest Hopkins detailing Hopkins' relationship with Mecklin's father, as well as the typescript for his autobiography "My Quest for Freedom," and his dissertation are also included. The material documents Mecklin's education and academic career.
