Polar notes records
Description
Polar Notes was an occasional publication of the Stefansson Collection, Dartmouth College Library. The first issue, in 1959, marked the occasion of Vilhjalmur Stefansson's 80th birthday. Friends and colleagues were asked to contribute papers on polar work in a variety of fields. Subsequent issues presented articles on topics ranging from prehistoric burials to petroleum and submarines.
The papers of the Polar Notes span the years 1959-1976. Correspondence with contributors, printers, and libraries is arranged chronologically. There are manuscripts for many of the articles and features; these are arranged by volume number in which they appeared. Printing plates are included for several of the issues. The Polar Notes papers occupy 4.5 linear feet of shelf space and are a part of the Vilhjalmur Stefansson Collection on the Polar Regions.
