Description

The papers of the Hartshorn family consist of letters, diaries, memoirs, photographs, scrapbooks and memorabilia spanning three generations. Genealogical information on the family is also included. The collection centers around Newton Timothy Hartshorn and includes material related to his parents, siblings, wife, in-laws and children. Of note are the materials related to his service in the Civil War which include a diary and transcripts of letters written during that time and material related to his portrait of Ulysses S. Grant.
