Calvin Shedd papers
Description
The collection contains letters sent home to his family in Enfield, New Hampshire while he was an officer in the Seventh New Hampshire Regiment during the Civil War. A letter of citizens of Enfield, NH, to Joseph Abbott, commanding officer of the 7th Regiment, seeking a commission for Shedd as well as other related papers are also included. In the letters, Shedd relates Army training experiences at Camp Hale, New Hampshire and shortly thereafter in New York City. The letters then resume after Shedd's Civil War service, with correspondence from Indiana and Illinois, where Shedd traveled to find work and wages to support his family.
