Description

The collection contains photographic prints, negatives, contact sheets, notes, drafts, and some correspondence. These are research materials Kenneth Spritz utilized in writing "Theatrical Evolution: 1776-1976." Spritz developed this history of American theatre to accompany an exhibit he produced at the Hudson River Museum in celebration of the bicentennial of America's founding. Most of the material (11 of 16 folders) is photographic, and largely comprises copies of material in other institutions' collections or in the collections of theatre companies (including the American Conservatory Theatre and A Bunch of Experimental Theatres of New York). Subjects include theatre buildings, posters, costumes, sets, actors, and performances.
