Frederick Forsch collection on Winston Churchill
Description
The Forsch collection of Winston Churchill memoriabilia contains writings, correspondence, photographs, autographs, political cartoons, drawings and printed material. The collection documents, on a cursory level, aspects of Churchill's political career. Writings include the manuscript for "In the Lines Again," and the printed paper "Military Aspects of the Continental Problem," which was secret at the time of its printing in 1911. Notes related to a speech in the House of Commons (1911), the Police Expense Bill (circa 1940) and the Conservative Sound Finance Committee (1902) are also included. The collection also contains 124 personal and professional letters from Churchill to a variety of people, including the journalists A. Marshall Diston and Henry Lucy, Sir George Egerton, Maxine Elliot, David Lloyd George, Lord Wolseley, Max Aitkin, A.J. Lamb and Admiral Foote. Of note is the correspondence between Churchill and Admiral Sir Roger Keyes, concerning the German naval buildup in the 1920s and 1930s, and correspondence with Lord Layton. Signed photographs of Churchill with Stalin and Eisenhower and political cartoons by Ernest H. Shepard, Baron Benjamin, A. Moreland, Edmund Dulac, P. Cleaver, Felix Topolski and Leslie Illingsworth, as well as LP records of his speeches and memoirs are also included. Newspapers represented in this collection are "The People," "Daily Sketch," "London Cry," "Answers," and the entire short run of "The British Gazette." Churchilliana includes a scrapbook of the Second Boar War and a photo album documenting his trip to Bath in 1950.

Frederick D. Forsch (1915-1993), investment banker and collector of Churchilliana. Dartmouth College Class of 1937. The collection contains writings, correspondence, photographs, and autographs by Winston Churchill (1874-1965), prime minister of England. Political cartoons and drawings about Churchill, as well as out-of print newspapers and other printed memorabilia including LP records of his speeches and memoirs are also included.
