Description
The papers of Edward Hyde Cox contain correspondence, photographs, school records and ephemera, newspaper clippings, audio tapes, notebooks and Cox's annotated Robert Frost poetry books. The papers document the life and art collecting of Edward Hyde Cox. Correspondence is mostly with Edward Connery Lathem, a former Dean of Libraries at Dartmouth College and a close personal friend and artist Andrew Wyeth and his family. Additionally, letters between Cox and E.B. White, sculptor Walker Hancock, poet Donald Hall and others can be found in the papers.
Materials concerning Cox's family and personal life chronicle his financial inheritance from his grandfather, his art collecting, travels in his youth, his Cape Ann home on "Crow Island" and relationship with poet Robert Frost and painter Andrew Wyeth.
Of note are a few letters from Wyeth containing marginalia art in watercolor or pencil.
