John King Lord papers
Description
The papers of John King Lord contain correspondence, writings, account books, diaries, legal papers, newspaper clippings, notes, financial papers, insurance policies, publishing contracts, and a hunting permit. The papers document his tenure in the service of Dartmouth College from 1869 to 1926. The correspondence includes letters to and from Dartmouth College alumni and administrators on various topics including Lord's "History of Dartmouth College and the Town of Hanover", his appointment as Trustee of Dartmouth College, and his resignation as Professor of Latin at the College. Of note are the letters from William Jewett Tucker (DC Class of 1861), President of Dartmouth College, 1893 - 1909; Ernest Fox Nichols (DC Honorary 1903), President and Trustee of the College, 1909 - 1919; Ernest Martin Hopkins (DC Class of 1901), President of the College, 1916 - 1945; and Harlow Stafford Person (DC Honorary 1909), Director of the Amos Tuck School of Administration and Finance, 1906 - 1919.
