Description

The collection contains one logbook kept by William Nelson Griffith while serving as a midshipman on the HMS Griper during the British Arctic Expedition to find the Northwest Passage. It includes detailed observations on Winter Harbor on Mellville Island where the expedition wintered over. The logbook contains daily records on locations and events as well as a series of Highly detailed pen-and-ink drawings of the shoreline of Baffin Bay and Lancaster Sound with latitude and longitude noted. Also included are daily meteorological records for the entire time the expedition was underway.
