Description
The papers of Robert Scott Monahan consist of correspondence, news clippings, magazine articles, memoranda, notes, note cards, photographs, agendas, maps, mailing lists and reports. The documents span Monahan’s life from his youth as a high school student and athlete in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to his retirement and death in1994. The collection includes documents from Monahan’s time with the United States Forest Service, Mount Washington and the Observatory that he was instrumental in founding there in 1932. The collection includes material about Dartmouth, the Dartmouth Class of 1929 and the Outing Club. Personal correspondence and news clippings about natural areas of New Hampshire make up a great deal of the collection. The collection also contains records from Monahan’s participation in the New Hampshire State Legislature organized by date and by issue.
