Description
The collection contains the manuscrip diary of Able Seaman Alfred S. Bull. Bull served on the ship "Nimrod" for the 1907-1909 British Antarctic Expedition led by Ernest Shackleton. The diary chronicles the relief portion of the expedition leaving from Lyttleton, N.Z. on December 1, 1908 to its return on March 25. Bull describes the actions taken aboard ship to recover the expedition party who sought to reach the geographic South pole, climb Mount Erebus, and reach the magnetic South.
