Description

The diary of John A. Barnham records two trips; the first describes a journey he took with a female companion through New Hampshire when Barnham was 21 years old. Entries include accounts of Lake Winnipesaukee, fording the Saco River and time spent waylaid in Crawford's Notch due to a lame horse. The second and larger portion of the diary chronicles a sea voyage taken to India in 1834 and recounts daily life aboard ship including weather, sickness, and sea life.
