Represented here are James Brackett and his brother Joseph Warren Brackett as well as their mother Mary Weeks Nye Brackett and sister Martha Brackett. Of note is the correspondence by and related to Charles Brackett (1825-1863) a cavalry surgeon stationed west of the Mississippi during the Civil War. In particular his correspondence with his wife Margaret Brackett as well as his parents James and Eliza Brackett and brothers, James, Joseph, William and Albert Brackett track his movements, activities and thoughts before and during this turbulant period in American history. All the material related to Charles Brackett formed the bases for the biography "Surgeon on Horseback," by James Wheaton. A narrative written by James W.
