Dartmouth Outing Club records
Description
The records of the Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) contain correspondence, reports, committee minutes, budgets and financial documents, cabin and shelter logbooks, event planning materials, results of competitions, articles, maps, publications, photographs, proposals and policy statements documenting the administration, activities and responsibilities of the the DOC. These include oversight of Dartmouth Winter Carnival; First Year trips; competitive skiing; Woodsmen's Weekend; trails management; the construction and maintenance of cabins and shelters; safety training; and involvement in most of the College's outdoor programs. The records also contain materials relating to improvements, maintenance and timber management in the Second College Grant; DOC involvement in the search for doctors Miller and Quinn; and the activities of affiliated and alumni outing clubs.
Research materials compiled by David Hooke for his 1987 history of the DOC, and by Dean Engle for his book on Dartmouth Mountaineering Club, Talus, are also held within the records.

Abstract
The Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) was founded in 1909 by Fred Harris, Dartmouth Class of 1911, and others, to encourage winter outdoor activities at the College, and has become one of the largest student organizations on campus. The records of the DOC contain correspondence, reports, committee minutes, financial documents, shelter logbooks, photographs, and other materials documenting the administration, activities and responsibilities of the the DOC. The records also contain document relating to improvements, maintenance and timber management in the Second College Grant, and the activities of affiliated and alumni outing clubs.
