Description
William L. Cooper, Dartmouth Class of 1966. Oral history interview documenting his military service during the Vietnam War. Cooper describes his childhood in Michigan and his undergraduate experience at Dartmouth, including membership in the Dartmouth Glee Club and Phi Tau. He shares his memories of major events that occurred while he was a student, including the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the civil rights protest in response to George S. Wallace’s visit to campus. Cooper discusses being drafted into military service after graduating and completing basic training at Fort Knox. He describes his service in Germany as a chaplain’s assistant with the 3rd Armored Division and later with the United States European Command (EUCOM). Cooper discusses additional education after his military service, including completion of a law degree and a library science degree, and describes his work, family, and retirement.
