Content Description

Marriage contract between two individuals from noble families in central France in the 16th century. The dowry includes dresses and clothes, rings and jewellery, furniture and silver. Also included are lands and estates, including the fiefdom of Lachenal. The contract specifies the division of the property in the event of death of one spouse. The contract specifies a Catholic marriage.

21 x 10" (visible) framed photograph of Dartmouth Hall with Wentworth Hall and Thornton Hall partially visible. The frame is made from wood from Dartmouth Hall salvaged from the 1904 fire and is inscribed with initials and the date 1845.

Content Description Three documents on 17 sheets of paper, stitched together and rolled, containing a contemporary manuscript copy in Latin of the dissolution of the Priory of St. Peter and Etheldreda in Ely, Cambridgeshire (1539), a copy of the charter establishing Ely Cathedral (1541), as well as an original 1574 Elizabethan indenture related to the killing of crows and other birds seen as agricultural pests.
