Llewellyn L. Callaway Jr. letters
Description
The collection contains letters written by Llewellyn Link Calloway Jr. while he was a student at Dartmouth College (1926-1930), and Harvard Business School (1930-1932) as well as his summer work at Yellowstone National Park, the Post Office at Jersey City and the Smalley Eating Club at Dartmouth. Letters after 1932, reflect his post education work. Letters are addressed to his father Llewllyn Link Callaway Sr., his mother Ellen Nimma (Badger) Callaway and his siblings Fanni, Mimi and Jim. An expenses notebook from his first year at Dartmouth and some ephemera related to his fraternity pledge to Psi Upsilon and a clipping about his election to the Athletic Council are also included.
In the numerous letters from Dartmouth, Calloway Jr. describes his college life in detail, including daily activities and his involvement with Psi Upsilon fraternity, the Athletic Council for which he was a manager, winter carnival, dances, his work as secretary of Paleopitus, studying, friends and his bout with appendicitis in 1930, and food poisoning in 1929. Of note are a couple of letters in which he describes his relationship with Nelson Rockefeller who was a classmate and fraternity brother.
