Abstract

Letter to a 10 year old William Paul Nelson of Woodstock, N.H (Dartmouth class of 1961) discussing an enclosed silk screened rayon map showing portions of Spain, Portugal and Southwest France. The letter also discusses Nelson's desire to become a pilot and the history of the map. Hume describes the map as having been with him for 107 operations as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force including when he was shot down over the English channel.

Abstract

Legal documents including questions for deposition, depositions of witnesses and other documents, relating to a land dispute case in Noxubee Co. Mississippi, Nicholas McGilbry et al. (Choctaw Indians) vs. John Dent, as a result of the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek (1830). Case appears to have taken place in 1848. Creator unknown.

Abstract

Lincoln F. Brigham writes to Alfred D. Foster of Worcester, MA recommending his Dartmouth College schoolmate, Maris Bryant Pierce, for a lecture at the Worcester Lyceum. Foster writes that Pierce, a member of the Seneca tribe of upstate New York, had been honing a lecture on the Seneca's customs and culture he had given at Dartmouth.

Abstract

Samuel Atkinson, Jr. of Hopkinton, NH writes to Jacob Atkinson (a non-graduate of Dartmouth College, class of 1813) at Brown University. The letter concerns, in part, an event at Dartmouth College in which a cannon was stolen and fired at a wall that had been erected inside Dartmouth Hall. The explosion caused damage to the college building and resulted in the expulsion of involved students.
